We make bad ghosts...

I seem to be posting a lot about Viggo these days. :D
More pictures, some paintings, some photographs. All works are taken from his publications, namely Recent Forgeries (1998, second edition), Signlanguage (2002, Vol. VIII, no. 78), Coincidence of Memory (2002, Vol. I, no.1) and 45301 (2003, Vol.II, no. 3).
All books are available from Perceval Press.
School, 1996.
Spring Wellington, 2000
Working, Brooklyn, 1998 and Journal Entry, 1998. Two of my favorites. Scanned as they are presented in Signlanguage.
Just two I'm afraid. I had a hard time choosing.
Received Pronunciation, 2001
Self-Portrait, April, 1999 - 2002.

Date: 2004-03-02 09:10 pm (UTC)I really love Self-Portrait, for some reason. No, actually, I know the exact reason: Because I make fucked up collages like that in Photoshop sometimes, and I love to look at all the little bits of it and wonder what they signify, what they're there for, or if they were just handy. So I love that element of not fully understandable, ever. And also, I love the colouring in it. There's a smudge of yellow just below the lips, and I found it absolutely captivating. Stared at it for ten minutes, must've.
Actually, I love both the paintings. (Who'm I kidding? I love all of it, really.) In Received Pronunciation, I love love the photo of the trees and the subtle extension of roots below. Can't articulate why, but there you go.
I can't really say much about the photos, because I'm still a little stunned by them. Just . . .Guh.
*licks you rilly a lot*
Also, since this may be the one artistic thing I've not asked you, (or at least, remember asking you right now,) do you do any photography?

Date: 2004-03-03 06:15 pm (UTC)I did notice him in "The Prophecy" though. Mmm, how could I resist the devil? Part of my vision of Viggo as the devil survived and made its way into Devil May Care. Hum. I just hope nobody noticed. :D
I wish I could paint like that. Sometimes I colour a page before writing on it, but that's something different. I don't really paint, nor do I draw. I read in an article that you should not stop drawing, should not be intimidated by other people's work, but I am.
Sometimes I take pictures, but they do not turn out like I would like them to be. So, no I don't really do photography. If I ever have any money I will take a class. But knowing me and my budget, it will take a while.
I love that he used a piece of Boromir's cloak in "Received Pronunciation". He collects just stuff and uses it in his collages, which is brilliant.
*kisses*

Date: 2004-03-04 03:26 am (UTC)I know what you mean about wanting money for classes. I want money for a proper camera, really. I'm about to say fuck it all, I want one, and just buying it, consequences and potential starvation afterwards be damned.
Also, that Boromir's cloak thing is awesome - I don't think that I would have realised it had you not pointed it out, but knowing that makes it much cooler. I love things like that, and 'found art' - little bits of things that people discard that become beautiful in the right eyes.

Date: 2004-03-04 12:38 pm (UTC)And, um, I have never seen American Pie either. I have a rather eclectic taste when it comes to movies. And I didn't like Austin Powers. My hubby made me watch it! He sometimes grumbles at me for not watching every blockbuster there is. *sighs* And yes, they are very popular here. :)
So, do you do photography? I mean, you mentioned wanting to buy a camera...
I think I read about the cloak thing... I don't think I looked closely enough to recognize it. But that's what I love in collages... the patchwork of things that are important for the artist. I may need to take another look at his collages...

Date: 2004-03-05 02:22 am (UTC)I'm glad that it's not just me who's never seen those movies. I sort of want to, just to see what the fuss is about. But I kinda figured that they were popular everywhere by now, you know?
I do photography the same way that I do most things - Somewhat half-assed, very amature-ish, and probably only really interesting to me. But it pleases me, so whatever.

Date: 2004-03-05 05:59 am (UTC)And my offer stands. If you want to see a movie, just ask me if I have it. I could send it along with that print you wanted... (I still can hardly believe that you want a print of one of my pictures, eeep, that's the highest compliment ever!)
As for doing things half-assed: I believe that's only because of a lack of time. You seem so passionate about things. Def. lack of time!
*hugs*

Date: 2004-03-05 11:57 pm (UTC)You're the nicest ever, with the movies. I can't think of anything offhand that I'm desperate for, but I'll have to doublecheck my longlong list of "movies that I'm desperate for and will buy as soon as I win the lottery". Actually, I shouldn't check that, because then I will be sad that I've not yet won the lottery. Stupid everything.

*licks* This may be the nicest thing that anyone's ever said about me.

Date: 2004-03-06 03:08 pm (UTC)I'm planning to win the lottery too. No luck yet. But dreams are nice anyway so I still make plans. I want things like: a house with a garden. A library. A cat, or rather three. Books, more books, and a place to write.
*licks back* Nah, you're very passionate, I can tell. So, not nice, but the truth. Or maybe the truth and nice?

Date: 2004-03-07 01:10 am (UTC)I like your idea of a house and the library and garden and cats and books and writingspace. I have a plan something similar to that, actually. Of course, no luck with the winning yet, so . . .

Date: 2004-03-07 07:57 am (UTC)I love the effect you get when you smear the paint with your fingers. Some paintings have my fingerprint in them, which amuses me. Now that we talk about it, I want to paint again. I did a tiny card in December, but haven't really painted since.
