One of the great joys in life is finding new music to listen to. I like experimenting around. Probing, testing, listening to this and that. I can spend hours in a (good) record store. I try to listen to every song with an open mind, because that's what music really is about: finding bits and pieces that correspond with your inner self. Or soul, if you want.

(...) sometimes, very occasionally, songs and books and filmes and pictures express who you are, perfectly. And they don't do this in words or images, necessarily; the connection is is a lot less direct and more complicated than that. (...)
It's a process something like falling in love. You don't necessarily choose the best person, or the wisest, or the most beautiful; there is something else going on.

I hunt for songs like that. For songs that are like me, or like falling in love, if you liked the expression. I search for songs that somehow sound like me, sound like I would on the inside. Of course I do like songs that are different as well, I mean, where'd be the fun at that? Listening exclusively to things I feel anyway? I like diversity. But when I stumble upon a song that feels right, that somehow fits, it's much more special to me. Even if it's not the best, wisest, most beautiful song in the world. I don't care if it's in the Top Ten or any charts anywhere. Those are the songs I play ten times a day, every day, Eight Days A Week. Songs I'll still play in five years. Maybe even in ten years. To some I will listen obsessively, some I will forget until some time passes, and then I will listen to them again.

That's how much I love music. That's part of why I love music.
