This is going to be a surreal day, I can tell.

I wanted to sleep in late today, but was awaken by the sound of drums. Nice rhythmic Samba drums. So I'm not complaining.

When I got up, I saw something that made me smile. And I normally don't like insects much, apart from a freakish fascination they bear (the smaller ones at least), but when I saw them piling through my neighbour's front door, I could not help myself.

Picture ironically taken through the flyscreen on my window. (I know it's winter. The thing stays up!)

This is going to be such a great day. :D

High on real life. Or whatever life I have on weekends. O.o

But flies! With drums! (You can't see the drums on the pic but they had some!)

What is that? Oh, wait, I'm not even sure that I want to know... But I agree, seems like a sure sign for a great day! Can't wait to hear what happened... :)

I totally forgot about the carnival with their samba groups. I only remembered when I took the tram into the city and it got diverted.

*glee*

all these carnival costumes are great, though the flies are the most original of all. People went to lots of work!

What carnival is this?

In New Orleans, in the US, the Mardi Gras (Carnivale) season begins on Epiphany (Twelfth Night, or January 6), and ends on Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent for Catholics. They have dozens of parades over that period, but the fancy costumes don't really come out until close to the holiday itself.
