One of the reasons I was skeptical of this story when I first saw it was, I don't recall a skinny-dipping scene in the story. I remember something where Ennis says something like, "I'm gonna wash anywhere I can reach", and I pictured him indoors, or maybe in front of the tent, taking a sponge bath with a pot of water in proximity to clothed Jack. But I didn't recall Jack ever stripping down. So this is a scene of um, youthful exuberance to look forward to that I'd not known about before. Even with fake Jake.
It must have been an interesting conversation between them and Ang, and them together, where they are talking about all this. Heath getting up the nerve to do his nudist run (has he ever done a nude scene before?), and Jake saying, Un-unh, no way, and Heath teasing heck out of him for it.
(using my "bashful Jake" icon; wish I had a "runnin' bare" theme)
Awww, how come you can always turn mediocre news into something I can smile about?
I always pictured Heath as someone who has no problem whatsoever with showing himself. Showing an emotion as well as his body. (Even though I don't know if he had a scene in the buff before...) Jake however had always said he needed a damn good reason for getting naked on screen, let alone doing a full frontal. It's kinda cute that he sticks to that, although my rather embarrassing first reaction was: "Chicken!"
I think I remember a scene were Ennis is naked, or almost naked, and washing himself. Must check this. I think I'm taking the book to work with me and see if I can find out. But you're right about Jack. How fitting.
