San Diego Pics

Okay, some of you already know that I saw San Diego. What most of you don't know is that I took pics.
I was looking for some webspace to put them up, but with no luck.
dutch_eowyn saved my sad ass and provided me with some. Thank you so much! It would be years until I'd put them up if it weren't for you. I'm very grateful right now. And because I'm such a happy bunny, here are the pics.
Bigger versions available. Just ask.
It's hard to say what kind of genre this play
belongs to, as David Greig plays a lot with comical elements as well as very
touching and disturbing moments. It starts with Billy (as David Greig) on a plane, bound to San Diego. He talks a bit about his flight. Oh, what the hell, I'll type in
the monologue.
David Greig: "It is the summer of 2000. I'm flying to San Diego, California.
It will be the first time I have visited the American continent. I have been
in transit for eighteen hours now and for almost all that time I have been
awake and drinking alcohol."
He continues telling facts about San Diego, what a nice city it was, with
the highest standart of living or something to that extend. He says something
like "It was 10.30 when the plane took off, and now it's 15.42 *on the same
day*" which reminded me of his account about meeting Orlando and celebrating
his birthday twice. He sounded so much like himself that the play really hurt
when things got rough.
Aaanyway, I make this real short, because it would be way too complicated to
sum up the whole play as it had several subplots (that were all interwined,
Greig did a wonderful job here). Shortly after he landed, he gets lost and
stopped to ask for help. He sees a young man with a blue scar on his face, and
asks him for directions. The man stabs David without explanation, and leaves.
(that's were the blood comes from, and boy, it looked so real, I was
squirming in my seat). Billy is a splendid actor. He was bouncy at the beginning,
introducing everyone, funny as hell during the flight scene, and heartbreaking
realistic during his stab scene. The pilot finds him then, (the hugging
thingy in the later pictures) and tries to take care of him. They talk for a
while, talk about San Diego, because David is carring a guide in his backpocket. I
think you can see that too in the pics. David's condition gets worse, he's
tired and wants to lie down. The pilot won't let him though. Now this scene
was awful. It was tragic, but the dialogue was delivered very comically, so
sometimes I had to laugh althoug I didn't want to. "I'm just tired I won't
die.": that line just broke my heart. Later, David realises: "I'm dying. So that's
what it feels like." Shortly after, paramedics arrive and take him away.
Leaving a devasted pilot.
The whole tragedy lies in the pilot's story, who couldn't care for his own
children, but tends so lovingly to a total stranger. The pilot keeps refering
to David as "The kid" and how much he would have loved to save him.
I'm not sure whether or not David really died. He shows up again at the end
of the play.
I hope you have a vage idea now. The play is... complicated. I try to get
the script but at the mo it's rather hopeless.

Date: 2003-08-26 07:35 pm (UTC)That's exactly why I wanted to take pics. So desperately that I snug in a camera. Erm. I had to work without flash though.
