1) The other day I found this link to an article from 1999, when Jake was promoting October Sky. If you haven't seen it already, it's worth a read, as it has some entertaining bio info I hadn't seen before.
Jake Gyllenhaal: Rising Star Balances Homer and Hollywood (http://www.jessicaseigel.com/articles/jake.shtml)
I found it online after I saw a rumor online that Jake is considering starring in a remake of West Side Story. I googled to see if I could see any more authoritative source than a rumor on a list, and found this article, which reports that he was first noticed by a Hollywood talent scout while performing in a high school production of West Side Story.
2) I watched The Order a couple of months ago. It's utter crap, but what struck me were the slashy bits. Eg, Father Heath and his chubby companion relaxing on the bed together, while the alleged love interest sits on the sofa across the room. Father Heath sitting on the couch of the sin eater's home, blanket over his legs, having clearly spent the night (OK, on the couch, but it's a start). The many pregnant pauses and glances between Father Heath and the sin eater. Neither pairing excites me, but I couldn't miss the UST. Particularly given the utter lack of chemistry between Father Heath and his flaky ex girlfriend.
I've not seen A Knight's Tale, but it has its own slash archive (http://www.aknightstale.fanspace.com/").
I rented Ned Kelly yesterday, will watch it soon. I also rented Rushmore, a 1998 comedy that stars Jason Schwartzmann (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005403/), who I read somewhere was Richard Kelly's original choice to play Donnie Darko.
3) I remember Gattaca primarily for the cinematography. The stylized look of the movie, and dramatic shots, were among the most memorable I've seen. The hued colors (ie, it looks like black was added) and hard surfaces had the effect of making the normally chilly-seeming Uma Thurman look warm and vibrant by comparison.
