Reading Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, I came across some very true statements. It's a lovely book. First I thought it might be a justification of being a (football) fan, but then it's more. And it's strangely entertaining, even for a person like me who knows very little about British football. Well, I like some Clubs but don't know much about the history of football.
Yet I understand him. I don't have to try, I just do. (Me understanding a male being - now that's a new thought!)
He had some views on obsession, I know about but never seen written down. Here it goes:
And while there are women with obsessions, they are usually, I think, obsessive about people, or the focus for their obsession changes frequently.
That's so true. I mean, all my life I have been obsessed about people rather than Clubs or movies as a whole. When Nick Hornby writes about his obsession about Arsenal, the club is what's important to him, not a single player. He develops a relationship to the players as well, but when they leave the club to play somewhere else or retire, he still loves the club. He honors the great players, he memorizes them, but they aren't his focus.
Isn't that strange?
I was always interested in people (actors, bands) and I think I'll always be.
Obsession's nice, huh? And sharing obsessions is simply brilliant. So, come on, go out there and grab yourself an obsession- anything you want. Sports Clubs, Movies, actors, bands, music... pick one!
